DANI SARONG NAVY
Our sarong is much more than a simple accessory, it's a truly wearable work of art that transports you to a mystical elsewhere.
Illustration Story
This illustration is made by watercolor and represents scenes of the Dani people’s life. Emerging either from the dark green forests or from the alang alang «honai» huts, the Dani people walk slowly through the cabbage and sweet potato fields. Women support on their heads the «noken» , a kind of large woven bag to carry their baby or their vegetables, while men wear their penal case called «koteka». The whole tribe goes about its daily routine and celebrates the pig festival.
A note from the artist
Creating these illustrated thumbnails has enabled me to relive the journey into the fascinating life and culture of the Dani people that I made in October 2023. Every person I was lucky enough to meet during my stay has been carefully drawn, from the village chief to his brother, their father and their wives. Through each meticulous detail of this illustration, I sought to capture the essence of their existence, paying homage to the exceptional people I met on my journey.
I felt the need to share the beauty of this culture with the world. I wanted to bring these scenes of everyday life to life, using watercolor to create a soft, contemplative, toile de Jouy-like atmosphere. In painting these miniatures, I also sought to highlight the importance of preserving the unique traditions and lifestyles of indigenous peoples around the world.
